Healing

Thank you for trusting me with your tattoo! Now it’s time to get you all healed up.

(Also I would love to see your healed tattoos, please send me a picture once its all settled!)

Tegaderm Bandage Aftercare

*I likely wrapped your tattoo in a bandage, if so please leave the bandage on for 4 full days

*On the 4th day remove the bandage. It is helpful to do this under running water. Pull the edge of the bandage towards you to peel it off. I don’t recommend pulling it away from your body as this will be more uncomfortable.

*Once you remove your bandage, wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and with antibacterial soap. An example of antibacterial soap is Gold Dial.

*Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and apply a thin layer of non-scented lotion. Examples include Lubriderm, Aveeno, Curel, Hustle Butter, and coconut oil.

*Repeat cleaning and moisturizing your tattoo 3 times a day for the next 1-2 weeks.

Traditional Aftercare

*Rarely, some people’s skin does not react well with Tegaderm. If this is the case follow below.

*I will wrap your tattoo in cling wrap, after about 3 hours remove that cling wrap and wash your tattoo with lukewarm water with antibacterial soap. An example of antibacterial soap is Gold Dial.

*Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and then apply a thin layer of Bacitracin or A&D ointment.

*If you wish you can wrap the tattoo in cling wrap for the first night and then remove immediately in the morning

*For the next two days, wash and reapply ointment at least three times a day, but more often if you are able.

*After two days use non scented lotion instead of ointment in your cleaning. Examples include Lubriderm, Aveeno, Curel, Hustle Butter, and coconut oil.

*Repeat cleaning and moisturizing your tattoo 3 times a day for the next 2 weeks.

 To note:

* While healing, do not expose your tattoo to excessive sweat through exercising. Do not expose the tattoo to direct sunlight. Do not submerge the tattoo in water (bath, hot tub, pool, ocean, etc.)

*Tegaderm wrap is waterproof, but does not protect from heat, this means you should not submerge the tattoo in hot water while showering

*In most cases, after two weeks your tattoo should be healed enough that you do not need to take daily care of it.

*Between days 4-6 (depending on your healing method) you will see your tattoo start peeling like a sunburn. This is normal, do not pick at scabs, but if it comes off easily while washing that is okay.

*Avoid scratching your tattoo, it will become itchy while healing.

*All in all keep in mind that your tattoo is an open wound and to avoid activities that will introduce bacteria while it is healing. Any questions during the process, feel free to reach out and I would love to be sent a picture of the tattoo when it is all healed up <3
